BUZZ: Rebranding Yves Saint Laurent

Yves Saint Laurent creative director, Hedi Slimane, has shocked the world by changing the luxury fashion house's legacy name to Saint Laurent Paris... Slimane wants to rebrand Yves Saint Laurent to have a more youthful and modern aesthetic, as seen in his Spring Summer 2013 collection (trickling into stores now). The name Saint Laurent Paris actually dates back to 1966 when the fashion house was originally named Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. I'm not sure how you feel about it, but to me, YSL will always be YVES Saint Laurent. And as for appealing to the younger demographic, you can count me out.

The fashion house says that they will keep the iconic logo the same while rebranding Saint Laurent Paris... but isn't that just confusing?

What do you think? Can Saint Laurent Paris ever have the same appeal of Yves Saint Laurent?   -lulu

STEAL: Neutrogena On-The-Spot Acne Treatment

While there are tons of skincare products out on the market to cure blemishes, my favorite is Neutrogena On-The-Spot Acne Treatment for $5.99 (or £6.00). Like the name suggests, it provides maximum-strength results for spot treatment without drying out my face. Neutrogena On-The-Spot Acne Treatment only contains 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide, yet it does the job of high dose treatment with 70% less irritation and the same level of effectiveness. Higher doses of Benzoyl Peroxide can cause redness and dryness of the skin, making pimples worse. I find Neutrogena's oil-free On-The-Spot Acne Treatment perfect for that time of the month... It's non-comedogenic so it won't clog pores and goes deep down to kill the acne bacteria that causes pimples while stopping new ones from forming. I simply apply a small dot to clean, dry skin before bed and wake up with a dramatically reduced zit. Brilliant! I also apply a small amount underneath my moisturizer in the morning. POW! Take that zit!   -lulu

Eyelash Extensions

Happy New Year!! I hope you all had a wonderful New Year's Eve celebration! To celebrate 2013, I decided to try eyelash extensions... And, I'm so glad I did. They make such a BIG difference! My eyes look instantly awake and gorgeous! I'm kinda embarrassed to post my before picture... My natural lashes look nonexistent in comparison to the semi-permenant lashes. :(

I visited Ebenezer in NYC for my eyelash extensions, but eyelash extensions salons are now available world-wide. At Ebenezer, they have a wide variety of lashes (different lengths and thickness) to compliment your lashes. I chose a mixture of short and medium lashes for a more natural look. For an hour I laid back and relaxed on a bed while an eyelash specialist applied some sort of tape to the top and bottom eye lid (right underneath each lash line) to prevent glue from sticking to the wrong areas. The tape felt slightly uncomfortable, but I guess they need to do what they gotta do. The specialist then diligently apply each individual lashes to the base of my natural lash, not my skin. By doing so, the lashes look natural and fall out with my natural eyelash. They say the eyelash extensions last for 2 months, depending on the cycle of your natural eyelash. They also warn to not rub your eyes with eyelash extensions as any irritation to your eyelash can cause your natural lashes to fall out. Oh, and don't apply mascara on top of the eyelash extensions. Struggling to remove mascara will cause your lashes to fall out faster. In short, be EXTRA GENTLE around the eyes! But, that rule should always be followed. Eyes are typically the first place on the face to wrinkle... so be gentle with them.

My friend, Ashley, treated herself to eyelash extensions for a whole year! She says: "They are a major commitment, time- and money-wise, but they made me look and feel gorgeous! I found myself putting on less and less makeup because I didn't feel like I needed it." I can't agree more! In the last few days, I've only applied blush and lip gloss, but feel put together like I would with a full face of makeup. I've even noticed that my dark circles look less apparent because the focus is now on my long lashes! If eyelash extensions weren't so pricey, I would be temped to have them year round. For now, I'll stick to special occasions... like New Years Eve and my wedding. :)   -lulu

SPLURGE: Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder

Unless you are lucky enough to whisk away to somewhere tropical this winter, most of us will need a little bronzer to fake a tropical getaway. I prefer faking it with bronzer instead of spray tan or tanning bed. (Reasoning: they're both toxic!) While it may not cover your entire body in an even golden glow, I'm just fine having my face lightly bronzed. Besides... it's WINTER! You'll be so bundled up so much that no one will ever see your pasty limbs.

Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder ($50 or £30) adds just the right amount of color without making you look too dark or even worse... orange! It's perfect for fair skin all year round, but may not suit darker skin as it may be too light. There are 4 shades to choose from: Blonde, Brunette, Sun Blonde and Sun Brunette. Basically the Sun Blonde and Sun Brunette are heightened versions of the original. Therefore, if you are looking for a winter bronzer, pick up either the Blonde or Brunette and for the summer, buy either the Sun Blonde or Sun Brunette. Easy enough...

I prefer a sheer bronzer over a heavier bronzer, especially in the winter, because it leaves a more believable tan. Sheer bronzers leave you looking healthy and sun-kissed, not a bronze statue. I love the mosaic of the Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder. It's bronzing shades have a hint of shimmer leaving you with an elegant luminous glow and not a glittery disco ball. Applied correctly, it contours and flatters in all the right places. Why wouldn't you wear bronzer all the time?!

And remember... fake it, don't bake it! Save travels this holiday season!   -lulu
