NYFW Spring 2013 Nailed It

While hair and makeup were quite simplistic for New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 collections, exciting nail art was the talk of the town! Here are our favorite nails from the runway:

CND used a combination of matte and shiny CND colors (Desert Suede, Frosting Cream and Chocolate Milk) to provide an intricate woven nude nail. It took over 200 hours to create all 30 nail sets for the Spring 2013 runway show, but these nails are well worth it!

Nail artist, Marian Newman, added only one coat of MAC nail lacquer in Screaming Bright to add a barely there pearly glisten to the beachy Spring 2013 collection.

As an update to the caviar nails, CND's Candice Manacchio created a "Water Bubble" manicure using a base coat of CND Cream Washed followed by a dip in clear micro-beads and baby pearls. These nails invoke an underwater elegance on the bathing beauties.

Manicurist Tracylee freehand painted drips of blood on bare nails using Sally Hansen Angel Bite polish (skipping the base coat), followed by a clear topcoat to achieve the haunting "bloody" tips.

CND custom created nails in matte lavender almonds with edges iced in an off center high shine lilac chevron print.

To create a shadow effect on the nails, Essie manicurists painted half the nail with Essie Chinchilly and the other half with Essie Brooch The Subject to compliment the modern rocker collection.

OPI created a cheerful french manicure with a splash of yellow using OPI Don't Touch My Tutu as a natural base and OPI Need Sunglasses for the bright tips. We can't wait to try this with other bright accent colors!

Rebecca Minkoff
The makeup by Stila and manicures by the Haven Spa team for Essie were popped with coordinating crisp mint apple shades at Rebecca Minkoff. Manicurists applied 2-3 coats of Essie Mint Candy Apple to both fingers and toes for the runway show. Kathy loves the gorgeous mint green color.

CND's Shelena Robinson created a ombre "Fairy Dust" manicure by mixing CND Additives Shimmering Silver and Antique Gold to a clear topcoat, adding a little extra glitter on the ends, to complement the simple, fresh face.

Essie created a V-shaped design on the nails using Essie Penny (copper metallic) as the base coat and either Essie Recessionista (brick red) or Essie Mint Candy Apple (mint green) on top. We look forward to trying these combos and more.

Deborah Lippmann's bold gingham print nails make me smile. Each nail starts with 2 coats of Deborah Lippman Amazing Grace (opaque white), followed by a pop of color: hot pink (I Kissed a Girl), royal blue (My Prerogative), yellow (It Girl), orange (Lara's Theme) or mint (mixing On the Beach and Yellow Brick Road). To recreate the look, Deborah recommends applying thin strips of Scotch tape after the base coat is completely dry. Paint stripes in one direction, then remove the tape, allow nails to completely dry before repeating in the opposite direction.

Lauren Moffatt
Models at Lauren Moffatt either wore a pop of diagonal color in OPI A Roll in the Hague (orange-red color above) or OPI Don't Talk Bach to Me (mustard yellow) with two coats of OPI Don't Touch My Tutu as the base. These two colors were also the predominant colors in Lauren Moffatt's Spring 2013 collection.

Erin Fetherston
ButterLONDON added the just the right amount of edge to Erin Fetherston's flirty collection with a silvery, lavender metallic polish (Lillibet's Jubilee). No jewelry needed with these sparkly nails.

Monika Chiang
New designer, Monika Chiang, is in the fast lane to success. Her collection of sporty chic looks are complemented with a edgy red nail. Lead manicurist, Ana-Maria, applied LancĂ´me Rouge in Love as the base with a metallic racing stripe in Essie No Place Like Chrome down the center of the nail.

Tracy Reese
Inspired by David Hockney's painted landscapes, Sally Hansen chose 4 bold color combinations for Tracy Reese's Spring 2013 runway show. The models sported two-toned triangular half moon manicures in the following colors: Beige (Sally Hansen Soy Latte)/Yellow (Sally Hansen Butterscotch), Coral (Sally Hansen Hot Lava)/Yellow (Sally Hansen Butterscotch), Aqua/Mint, and Nude/Black.   -lulu
